Bringing myself and the dahlias out of hibernation today. This false Spring is motivating and I’m looking forward to flower farming again! So many of you enjoyed planting my dahlia tubers last year so I’m prepping for the first sale of the season, dahlias. Sale date and blooms coming soon!

The fall sunsets at the flower farm have been on fire lately. There’s much to do yet here before snow flies. Maybe if I list all my fall garden chores for everyone to see, it’ll hold me accountable to getting them done! 😂 Anyone else need encouragement to check off their fall to-do’s?!

🍁 Dig and divide dahlia tubers
🍁 Collect seeds
🍁 Plant tulip and daffodil bulbs
🍁 Remove netting, staking and fabric
🍁 Plant garlic
🍁 Dig and store gladiolus, ranunculus and anemone corms
🍁 Cut back, pull and compost plant debris

Now that the flowers have seen a few frosts, I’m digging dahlia tubers today. I can’t wait to share them with you later this Spring, but for now enjoy this last bouquet of the season that went out.

Life’s been busy the past few months! I was able to slow down and cut a few flowers the other night. Sage and lisianthus make a versatile and long lasting arrangement for a kitchen!

Jennifer Kilber with Gem Bloom Flower Co is the featured vendor at this week’s Malchow Plaza Farmers Market.

Gem Bloom is located just outside Aberdeen, and every stem is sown, grown, and hand-picked at the local farm. Jennifer cultivates specialty cut flowers to capture the essence of each season and nurtures each flower from seed to bouquet to ensure the freshest and most vibrant blooms. She says, “Just like gems found deep within the earth, our flowers are waiting to be discovered!”

Check out Gem Bloom’s booth for locally grown, fresh-cut flowers, dahlia tubers, specialty pumpkins, and even flower subscriptions.

Jennifer isn’t your typical florist. She has a full-time career in the ag industry, and Gem Bloom is a hobby that turned into a second career. She doesn’t offer floral services for events like weddings, but wrapped bouquets or vased arrangements and buckets of blooms for DIY projects are available from May to September.
All Gem Bloom flowers are field-grown locally and freshly harvested for the longest vase life, and Jennifer specializes in unique flower varieties you may not be able to find locally.
