You know, sometimes things just work out for the best. Coincidence. Serendipity. Fate. Whatever you may prefer to call it.

I attended my first Anne Arundal County Fairgrounds sportsmen’s show sponsored by Appalachian Promotions this weekend. I had no prior knowledge that the facility would be lacking in the usual “creature comfort” of AIR CONDITIONING. It’s not that it wasn’t working. It’s that the facility was not even equipped with such a system, and on THE HOTTEST WEEKEND SO FAR THIS YEAR!!!

However, in spite of the sweltering heat, the show was very well attended. On opening day Saturday, I proudly helped a customer end a 60 year search for his Grail Knife. He told me that as a young boy, he remembers seeing this knife on display in a hardware store. As young as he was at that time he was unable afford it, but he never stopped thinking about it. He had occasionally seen one on a few different sales listings, but they were always marked as SOLD. Well wouldn’t you know, I just happened to have one available!

But wait! The story just doesn’t end there! This customer is from out-of-town and just happened to be in this area for about a week visiting with his sister and her family. His brother-in-law heard about this show and together they decided to attend. He later told me that it was the ABSOLUTE BEST decision he has ever made!

He shared a few other cutlery stories with me as well, and he left a a very happy person!

Sometimes, things just seem to work out for the best. It certainly did for this customer. Of course, he left with this knife proudly in hand!

Mail Call today from J. Bruce Voyles Auctioneers. It was listed as “unknown maker”, but I’m pretty sure that it’s the always amazing flintknapping work of the late, great Dr. Errett Callahan. I’ve never heard of anyone else who used silicon nodules to knap blades from. The silvery blade color and white mother-of-pearl handle inlays really make for a beautiful piece of work! This one’s for my personal collection.

Scored a great set of Robbie Hudson Master Smith marked handmade knives at the Timonium Show this weekend! Prizes like this are rarely seen, let alone available at shows like this. I believe they were a custom order, as they have the initials “HC” or maybe “HT” engraved on both blades. Mr. Hudson even made and marked the leather sheaths.

Announcing my next event coming up this weekend, 27-28 April 2024, at the Timonium Fairgrounds. Sponsored by Appalachian Promotions, the show is open to the public 9am-4pm Saturday and 9am-3pm Sunday. Parking is free and admission to the show is 9 bucks per person older than 11 years. If you’re younger, admission is FREE, but you must be accompanied by a paying responsible adult.

I’ll have 5 tables filled end-to-end with an extensive selection of handmade and manufactured cutlery products, and I’ve recently acquired a nice selection of reference books that may interest those of you who collect antique and vintage cutlery products. Not sure if I’ll have any FREE products at this show, but I will offer my usual sharpening service for donations to support American Veterans. This is a Pay-What-You-Want service.

I’ve done a lot of trading recently, so you’re going to see quite a few new products available. Come check them all out! I hope to see you there!

My next event is a local one in Harford County. If you remember the annual Bel Air Show that took place in February at the Bel Air American Legion, and later changed its location to the Bel Air Armory? Well after 61 years, the location is changing again! Along with this is a name change too. The new name is The Chesapeake Sportsman’s Show, and the new location is the Jarrettsville Firehouse at 3825 Federal Hill Road in Jarrettsville, Maryland. I think that patrons coming to this new location will be pleasantly surprised with its LARGE parking area and easy access to the facility. This event continues to be sponsored by the Bel Air branch of the Isaac Walton League and is their major annual fundraising event. I hope that you will continue to support this quality show. To anyone interested, these are a portion of the collection of my good friend Norman Pepersack. This portion contains mostly club knives of the Chesapeake Bay Knife Club. Included are handmade products from Maryland knifemakers Ray Beers and Frank McGowan, PA award-winning knifemaker Kenny Steigerwalt, tomahawks by MD maker Larry Nowicki and ABS Master Smith Jack Fuller. Also included are manufactured knives from Spyderco, Rigid, Case, and Himalayan Imports.

I’d like to thank all of my customers who presented me with their dull knives for resharpening. As you all should know, I accept your fees as donations, and submit them to 3 different organizations that support disabled U.S. veterans and active duty U.S. soldiers.

This year, we donated equally to Leashes of Valor, Soldiers Angels, and Continue Mission, the amount of 101 USD.

So “Thank you” to all my sharpening customers! We did pretty well for the few months that we met up at the shows and my shop. Here’s hoping that the New Year brings even more sharpenings, and of course, correspondingly, more donations to support U.S. soldiers and veterans. I’ll see you at the shows next year.

Hello and Happy Holidays to all! I’ll be attending my last event for 2023 this weekend, 9-10 December in West Friendship, MD at the Howard County Fairgrounds. The show is open to the public on Saturday 9am-4pm, and Sunday 9am-3pm. Admission is $8 per person each day. Escorted children 11 and younger are admitted for free.

I’ll have 5 tables covered from end to end with a wide variety off handmade and manufactured cutlery products, some of which are in the accompanying pictures. I’ve re-stocked quite a few products that I had run short of, and have also brought in a few new brands that I hope you will enjoy.

Of course, I’ll also be providing my usual sharpening services throughout both days, so if you need your turkey or ham slicing knives tuned up, I will gladly take care of them for you. Other general purpose knives are welcomed too!

I hope to see you at this show so we can close out the year sharpened, shiney, and ready to go!

WOLF’S KNIVES will be attending the this 9th Annual Bel Air American Legion event. I have many new cutlery products available for this event, including a most UNIQUE Advent Calender designed for young adult knife collectors. I’ll also have my usual knife sharpening equipment available to demonstrate how to get all your knives ready to handle the hunting and Holiday seasons.

My first event for 2023 will be at the SOLANCO FAIRGROUNDS in Quarryville, PA. Sponsored by the Lancaster Muzzle Loading Rifle Association. I attended this event for the first time last year, and had very good results. Previously considered a “black powder” show, the sponsor personally invited me to attend. I’m sure glad that I accepted! Hopefully there will be no snow this year, so I can get there on time for the 8am start!

October will be a busy month for WOLF’S KNIVES, and it starts off with this event being held in Bel Air, Maryland. This one is a AWESOME 3-DAY SHOW, opening on Friday at 5pm, so you could stop by on your way home from work, if you live or work in Harford County!

I’ll be covering 4 LARGE tables from end-to-end with some of the best handmade and manufactured cutlery products. I’ve got some great new products for you to choose from too, including some BEAUTIFUL RANDALL MADE KNIVES! These are Top-of-the-line American made products built by hand in Orlando, Florida. I’ve got a few in my personal collection too. Pretty cool stuff!

Of course, I’ll also be sharpening YOUR knives, up to 8” blades, that may need it, for the cost of whatever donation you choose to make. All donations will benefit disabled American veterans.

This event is one of only maybe 3 such events in Harford County, so this is the perfect time to get what you need before hunting seasons open. Don’t let the nice weather keep you away. LOL! I’ll see you there!

My next show event is in 2 weeks, 19-20 February 2022, sponsored by the Nur Shrine Center in New Castle, Delaware. The Gun and Sportsmens Show, 198 South DuPont Highway.
