What is a potato leaf tomato?

Potato leaf tomatoes have smooth, dark green leaves that lack the serrated edges of typical tomato plants. Believed to have originated in Europe as a genetic mutation or recessive trait, these varieties are often heirlooms. Some gardeners even claim they offer better resistance to pests and disease.

We carry several potato leaf varieties, including Mikado, Summer Sunrise, Prudens Purple, Japanese Black Trifele, Brandywine, and Glacier.

The key to attracting hummingbirds into your garden? KLIP DAGGA.

A fast-growing tropical annual, Klip Dagga has a playfully strange, Seussian sort of beauty. Despite its origins, Klip Dagga is very adaptable: It thrives in a range of soils and conditions–even in containers–and reaches up to 10 feet tall!

Hummingbirds can't seem to get enough of its fuzzy, orange, tubular flowers!

🌺 Gladiolus: Tall, sword-like spikes of colorful blooms. A garden classic for summer borders and cut flower arrangements.

🌺 Elephant Ears: Bold, tropical foliage with huge, dramatic leaves. Thrives in warm climates or as a striking container plant.

🌺 Ranunculus: Layers of delicate, rose-like petals in vibrant hues. A favorite for bouquets and spring gardens.

"Bitter is Better" is the slogan coined by the Culinary Breeding Network, collaborators on this Art Pack.

Radicchios are compelling little plants: they present in various leaf-shapes, different degrees of rosy coloration, varying levels of bitterness to the flavor. This blend of all of the above allows you to sample an array of forms.

Direct sow in early spring and again in mid-to late-summer. Tolerates light frosts. Though suitable for both spring and fall cultivation, the fall crop is a degree less bitter and more colorful when young. Feel free to let some of the young plants to continue on to maturity; the coloration and character increase as the plants get bigger.

Sacred Basil, also known as Tulsi, is considered a sacred plant in the Hindu religion and has been cultivated for at least 3,000 years.

Known as the Incomparable One, Queen of the Herbs, and Elixir of Life, Sacred Basil has been used for centuries for its healing properties. Today, scientists classify it as an adaptogen, a substance that helps us adapt mentally and physically to stressful circumstances. One whiff of its exquisite aroma and you'll understand why!

This particular variety, O. africanum, originates from East Africa and is known for it's fruity scent, fast growth, and frost tolerance. It is the most commonly found variety in the U.S., as it is very well-adapted to the North American climate. This variety makes a delicious tea–and is much beloved by the bees.

Sugar Magnolia Snap Peas are a beautiful, unusual snap pea, with good, sweet flavor.

Alan Kapuler, an Oregon farmer and free thinker, dedicated his life to breeding open-pollinated plants, including this purple sugar snap pea with its twisting, edible tendrils. With delicious, abundant shoots and snappy purple pods, this plant provides everything you need for a fresh salad or a flavorful sauté.

Note that there is still some variation in the pod color; the appearance of some green pods, along with the purple pods, should be expected. Direct sow as soon as soil can be worked.

Art by Heather Renaux. Heather interviewed Alan Kapuler before crafting this acrylic-on-board custom family tree, which weaves together the story of this variety with that of his own family. Each branch carries elements that are significant to his work and life.
