Dec. 6 UPDATE: still on to set six beams tomorrow, Dec. 7 & six Friday, Dec. 8. The trucks carrying the beams are expected to roll in around 11 am. Stay tuned!

Have you ever seen bridge beams being set? Here's your chance. On many of our SW Ga bridge projects, like those on I-75, this is an activity done at night because it often requires closing lanes of traffic. That won't be the case when a contractor sets beams for the new Liberty Expressway bridge Dec. 7 and 8, beginning around 11 a.m. The beams will be set from a temporary access road that is behind the barrier wall and minimal impact to traffic is expected. You are welcome to watch the activity, but please do not encroach on the construction area or block or hinder traffic on the Expressway. Recommended viewing locations are the mall parking lot, Badcock parking lot or the Byne Christian School parking lot. The beams will arrive on trucks. Crane operators will pick up each one and swing it to its designated spot. Each beam is designed to be placed in a specific location. Construction workers on the ground have the job of making sure each beam is properly set on a pin and bearing pad, which acts as a kind of shock absorber. The new bridge will carry Expressway traffic over the new Westover Boulevard Extension. This new road will connect Westover Boulevard and Ledo Road. Please note the dates are subject to change.
